Donegal Tweed, craft and the Adare partnership
Crafted in collaboration with Adare Manor, this collection is a love letter to Ireland, its land, its people and its enduring craft. Designed by Jack Murphy, a family brand rooted in generations of garment making, it celebrates Irish heritage, craftsmanship and quiet innovation. Each piece is made from custom Irish-wool tweed, blended for softness and woven in Donegal in colours that reflect the landscape and the elegance of Adare. From fibre to finished form, every detail reflects the quiet pride of Irish design. Styles are named for those who shaped the journey, a tribute to the hands and hearts behind each garment. This is more than clothing. It is a story of tradition and invention told through fabric, form and a shared commitment to Irish wool, family-led design and the future of Irish textile craft.
Donegal tweed is born of place. More than cloth, it is a living tradition of handwoven texture and colourful flecks called neps that capture the Atlantic coast and the rolling hills of County Donegal. For Jack Murphy x Adare Manor collaboration we commissioned three exclusive Donegal tweeds, each conceived with Adare Manor and brought to life in County Donegal. The fabrics are a careful blend of 60% Irish wool and 40% Merino, spun by Donegal Yarns and woven by Molloy & Sons, so the cloth is both soft to the hand and structured enough for tailored outerwear.
The fibre itself is reared and sheared on Irish farms, washed, spun and yarn-dyed, then woven and finished in Donegal, so the story of each garment begins on Irish soil and at Irish looms. Our process honours the full wool journey from shearing to weaving. For decades Irish wool was seldom used in structured, luxury garments and was often overlooked because of its naturally coarse character. By blending homegrown fleece with fine Merino, we have found a technical and aesthetic solution that keeps the authenticity of Irish wool while delivering the softness, drape and performance required for luxury tailoring.
Each coat and blazer is conceived to be worn for years, not seasons. These garments carry Irish wool from farm to loom to finished coat, restoring a living tradition of Irish textile making to the wardrobe and keeping the story of Ireland’s landscape and its people firmly woven into every piece.
Care Instructions
Dry clean only to maintain the tweed’s integrity and textured finish. For long term storage hang garments on a sturdy, shaped hanger in a cool, dry place or use a cedar-lined wardrobe to deter moths. If you must protect a garment in storage, choose a breathable cotton or linen garment bag rather than plastic so the wool can breathe.
Wool is naturally resilient and benefits from gentle handling. Between wears allow the cloth to rest on a padded hanger so fibres relax and any light creases fall away. Avoid machine washing, tumble drying, bleaching or harsh solvents; for small marks dab gently with cool water or consult a dry cleaner experienced in fine wool garments. When a deep clean is required, trust professional dry-cleaning to preserve colour, structure and the bespoke trims that define the Jack Murphy x Adare Manor pieces.
