The Irish Fashion Designers Taking Paris By Storm

From Jonathan Anderson being named in Time’s top 100 most influential people of 2024, to Simone Rocha branching out into publishing with her first coffee table tome, it’s safe to say Irish fashion has never been so well positioned on the international stage. Now, the Council of Irish Fashion Designers (CIFD) has announced an inaugural Irish fashion showcase in Paris this February. The showcase will take place in the Embassy of Ireland, which is located in 16th arrondissement, on February 5 and 6. It will champion Irish fashion design, with the purpose of highlighting brands to French fashion buyers and media, and will be the first co-ordinated event of its kind to happen in the French capital.

Leading the charge is a host of Irish fashion brands that lean into contemporary luxury including occasionwear brand AndTate, champion of Irish linen Kindred of Ireland, luxury knits by Urban Aran, heritage label Magee 1866 as well as Dublin brand Jack Murphy. They will be joined by purveyor of colourful textiles Caroline Duffy, cashmere specialist Laura Chambers, sleepwear brand Moon + Mellow, as well as Wexford brand FéRí, Éadach by Sara O’Neill and slow luxury brand Noema James. On the accessories front, footwear brand Nicki Hoyne will be joined by leather goods specialists Aleo and Landa. The focus of the showcase will be on AW25 collections specifically, with a theme of heritage, sustainability and luxury.

Speaking about this celebration of Irish fashion design, Nicki Hoyne says. “Irish design has changed, it’s much more contemporary and wearable. It used to be about formal and occasionwear for premium Irish brands but now things are more contemporary. It’s about great leather goods and great materials … Ever since Covid-19, people are being braver and it’s about being wearable for day-to-day living,” she says. Hoyne will debut her AW25 collection in Paris which leans into moody, luxurious colours such as burgundy, forest green and chocolate brown. A key new shape will be round-toe flats, plus there will be an emphasis on studding and bow details, which continue to be in large demand.
