Men’s Brown Jackets & Coats

Brown brings a warmer, earthier alternative to navy or black, and it’s a shade that has always sat naturally alongside country style. At Jack Murphy, our men’s brown jackets and coats are built from waxed cotton and wool tweed, giving the colour the same durability and heritage character found across the rest of our outerwear.

The range currently centres on waxed cotton jackets and wool coats, each designed in Ireland and made to develop timeless character with age rather than wear out. Rustic brown waxed cotton and chestnut wool tweed both deepen and soften over time, so no two jackets in this colourway look quite the same after a few seasons of wear.

As with the rest of our outerwear, every brown jacket and coat is finished with practical detailing, from secure fastenings to fully lined interiors, so the colour looks as good after regular wear as it did on the first day.

A Warmer Alternative to Navy and Black

For a classic countryside look, the Archie Wax Jacket in Rustic Brown and Ciaran Wax Jacket in Rustic Brown offer a warmer take on our usual wax jacket range, whilst the Owen Wool Coat in Chestnut Herringbone brings the same tone to a more tailored silhouette. Both of the former jackets keep the relaxed, practical cut our wax styles are known for, so moving into a warmer colourway doesn’t mean giving up any of the everyday functionality.

Waxed Cotton and Wool, Built to Age Well

Our brown waxed cotton develops a natural patina with wear, whilst brown wool tweeds such as the Owen Wool Coat in Tobacco Check are woven using the same heritage mills behind our wider tweed coats collection, chosen for their durability, warmth and understated texture.

Where waxed cotton earns its character through use outdoors, wool tweed tends to hold its structure and colour with less upkeep, which is why we offer brown across both fabrics rather than favouring one over the other. It gives you a real choice between a jacket that ages characterfully with every wear and a more tailored coat that stays looking sharp for smarter occasions.

Finished for Everyday Wear

Whether worn for a country walk or layered under a coat in town, our brown jackets are built with the same attention to detail as the rest of the range, including secure fastenings, quilted or lined interiors and finishing that holds up to daily use. It is this consistency across colourways that lets you choose brown for the tone alone, without compromising on how the jacket performs day to day.

Why choose a men’s brown jacket over navy or black?

Brown offers a warmer, more relaxed alternative to navy or black, and it pairs particularly well with countryside settings, denim and other earthy tones.

Is waxed cotton in brown as durable as other colours?

Yes. The colour has no effect on the performance of the fabric. Our rustic brown waxed cotton uses the same construction as our other waxed cotton jackets, offering the same wind and water resistance.

How do I care for a brown wax jacket?

Sponge clean with cold water rather than washing or dry cleaning, and re-wax periodically to maintain water resistance and keep the colour looking rich.

Does brown wool tweed fade over time?

Wool tweed is a naturally durable fabric, and with proper care, including regular brushing and occasional dry cleaning, the colour should remain rich for many years of wear.

What’s the difference between rustic brown wax and chestnut tweed?

Rustic brown wax is a waxed cotton finish that develops a weathered patina outdoors, whilst chestnut tweed is a woven wool fabric with a smarter, more tailored appearance. Both sit within the same brown colourway but suit different occasions.

What can I wear with a men’s brown coat or jacket?

Brown works well with cream, navy, denim and most neutral tones, making it an easy addition to an existing wardrobe.
