Women's Padded Jackets & Coats

Cold has a way of arriving before you're ready for it. One week the mornings are mild. The next, the wind bites through your coat before you've reached the end of the lane. Jack Murphy's women’s padded coats and jackets are designed for that shift, that point in the year when outerwear needs to do two jobs at once. Keep the rain out. Keep the warmth in.

Every style in this collection is waterproof and windproof with taped seams, so rain doesn't find its way through stitching after half an hour outdoors. Inside, a Jack Murphy signature printed lining, softly padded, adds a layer of insulation. It's a subtle touch that holds heat close to the body without adding the bulk that makes you feel stiff through the arms and shoulders.

Cuts in our women’s padded coats and jackets range from mid-length jackets with princess seams and nipped waists to full-length coats with back vents. Styles that are built for walking, riding and spending long stretches outside in open weather. Detachable hoods, adjustable cuffs and moleskin trim on collars and pockets run through the range as standard.

Warmth Without Weight

The padding in this collection isn't there to make the coat thicker. It's there to trap warmth efficiently, using a thin insulating layer bonded to Jack Murphy's signature printed lining. The result is ladies’ padded coats and jackets that feel warm from the moment you pull them on, without the heaviness of a traditional winter puffer. And that detail counts when you're wearing a coat all day. Bulk tires. A well-padded coat that sits light on the body and moves with you doesn't. Layered over a knit or a thin fleece, these ladies’ waterproof padded jackets hold steady in temperatures that would leave an unlined waterproof feeling cold and hollow against your back.

Waterproof First, Padded Second

Plenty of ladies’ padded coats and jackets offer warmth but give up at the first sign of rain. This collection works the other way round. Waterproof and windproof construction comes first. That includes taped seams, sealed zips, and hoods that stay put in wind. The padded lining sits behind that barrier, protected and dry. That's the difference between a jacket that keeps you warm on a crisp, dry afternoon and one that keeps you warm when it's wet, windy and three degrees.

Details That Earn Their Place

Every detail in this range exists because it solves a real problem. Detachable hoods come off cleanly when weather clears and you'd rather not have fabric bunched at your collar. Adjustable cuffs seal out wind and rain at the wrist. And moleskin trim on collars and pockets adds softness where fabric meets skin, and wears well over time without pilling. Princess seams shape the body without relying on a belt, keeping the silhouette clean and fitted. And slanted front pockets sit at a natural hand height rather than where they'd look neatest on a hanger.

What is the difference between a padded jacket and a padded coat?

The difference is mostly in length and coverage. A padded jacket tends to finish higher on the body and feels lighter for everyday movement, while a padded coat offers more warmth through the hips and thighs, which many people prefer on colder, windier days.

Are women’s padded coats and jackets warm enough for everyday winter wear?

Yes, for many day-to-day situations they are exactly the layer people reach for most. They give steady warmth for commuting, errands, walks, and outdoor plans without the heavier feel of a full winter coat, which can be too much once you are back indoors.

Do ladies’ waterproof padded jackets work in heavy rain?

They are especially useful in cold, damp conditions and light to moderate rain, where warmth and water resistance matter together. For prolonged downpours, the exact fabric and construction make the difference, so it is worth checking the product details on the individual style you choose.

How should ladies’ padded coats and jackets fit?

They should leave room for a jumper or knit underneath without feeling tight through the shoulders or arms. The best fit feels easy rather than oversized, with enough space to layer comfortably while still keeping a clean line through the body.

When is a padded coat better than wool?

A padded coat is often the easier choice for unsettled weather, travel, and busy everyday wear. It feels less formal, usually lighter on the body, and better suited to damp mornings or changing forecasts, where warmth alone is not the only thing you need.

What do waterproof padded jackets for women pair well with?

They work well with denim, boots, knitwear, leggings, and simple day dresses. Because the coat already brings texture and volume, the rest of the outfit can stay straightforward.
