Men's Wool Coats

Yes. Wool is one of the most effective natural insulators available, trapping warm air within its fibres to provide substantial warmth relative to its weight. Choosing a coat with room for knitwear underneath extends its usefulness into the coldest months.

It indicates the outer cloth is made entirely from wool fibre with no synthetic blend. Pure wool offers the best natural insulation, breathability and moisture management, though linings and trims may use other materials for durability and comfort.

Wool has natural water resistance, with light rain tending to bead on the surface before soaking in. It is not waterproof, so for extended time in heavy rain a waterproof coat is more suitable.

Brush the coat with a soft clothes brush after wear to lift dust and surface dirt, and store it on a broad hanger so the shoulders keep their shape. If it becomes wet, let it dry naturally away from radiators or direct heat, and dry clean only when necessary.

Yes. Tailored wool coats are cut with enough room through the shoulders and body to sit comfortably over a jacket without pulling. Longer lengths work particularly well over tailoring, giving a clean line and covering the suit jacket fully.

Tweed is a type of woollen cloth, so all tweed coats are wool coats. The distinction is in the weave and finish: tweed has visible texture and often a check or herringbone pattern, while other wool coatings can be smoother and more formal in appearance.
