Women's Jackets & Coats

Our quality women’s coats are designed in Dublin for weather that shifts between dry and drenched in the time it takes to leave the house. The collection covers tweed, wax and waterproof outerwear, from hip-length jackets for women to full-length coats that shield you from hem to knee. Tweed fabrics come from mills in Donegal and Yorkshire, with waxed cotton from Halley Stevensons in Scotland.

Silhouettes that feel settled, not stiff. Structured tweed ladies’ coats sit alongside relaxed wax jackets and waterproof designs rated for sustained rain. Cuts that allow room for layering in colder months while holding a clean line when worn on their own. Whether you need a coat for the school run or a jacket that carries you through a long weekend in the country, our range is broad enough to cover all needs.

Colours are classic and versatile. Detailing stays practical: secure fastenings, shaped hoods, functional pockets. Our women’s coats are made for repeat wear, not one-season rotation. These are pieces that earn their place by lasting.

Heritage fabrics chosen for how they wear

Fabric defines our luxury women’s jackets and coats. Wool tweed brings natural warmth, breathability and reliable structure. Waxed cotton develops a softer hand-feel with age while holding its shape through wind and dampness. Utilising waterproof fabrics keeps you dry during prolonged rain exposure, with some of our rain coats rated up to 20,000mm and also feature taped seams. Whether you’re looking at ladies’ coats in tweed or jackets for women in waxed cotton, each fabric has been selected because of how it performs over months and years.

Lengths and fits for different days

Short jackets for women move freely for driving, walking and errands. Mid-length women’s coats give more coverage without the weight of a full-length style. Longer ladies’ coats offer protection from the elements and suit exposed conditions or colder stretches of the year. The variety here means you can match length and weight to the day rather than compromising on either.

Craftsmanship that supports long wear

From luxury women’s jackets in waxed cotton to luxury women’s coats in Yorkshire tweed, everything here follows a slow-fashion approach. Seams are clean and reinforced. Linings are smooth enough for easy layering. Fastenings, collars and hems are shaped with daily routines in mind, not photoshoots. The result is outerwear you wear often and keep for a long time. Because women’s coats should hold their form through regular use rather than fall apart after a season.

What types of women’s jackets and coats does Jack Murphy offer?

The range includes tweed coats and jackets, waxed cotton styles, waterproof outerwear and quilted designs. Lengths run from short jackets to full-length ladies’ coats, with fabrics sourced from heritage mills in Donegal, Yorkshire and Scotland.

How do I choose between tweed, wax and waterproof?

Choose tweed for colder, drier days and layered dressing. Choose wax when you want wind protection and something that handles damp well, then wears in over time. Choose waterproof styles for sustained rain, especially if you’ll be outside for long stretches.

Are these coats suitable for everyday wear?

Yes. These styles are designed for regular use, from commuting and school runs, to walking and weekends away. With fabrics and construction chosen to stay comfortable, Jack Murphy coats hold their shape through repeat wear, not occasional outings.

Can I layer knitwear under these jackets?

Yes. Most women’s coats and jackets accommodate light to mid-weight layers without pulling through the shoulders or arms. If you plan to wear heavier knits in winter, check the size guide on each product page and choose based on how you’ll layer day to day.

What coat length is most versatile?

Mid-length tends to be the easiest all-rounder: enough coverage for unpredictable weather, but still light and mobile. Shorter jackets suit mild days and busy weeks on the go. Longer coats come into their own in colder spells and more exposed conditions.

Do wax and waterproof styles need different care?

They do. Waxed cotton benefits from re-waxing over time to maintain water resistance and keep the finish looking right. Waterproof styles rely on their membrane and seam taping, so gentle cleaning and correct storage helps protect performance. Always follow the care notes on the product page for the specific fabric.
