Women's Short Jackets & Coats

A shorter jacket is having its moment. Proportions are sharper, hemlines are clipped, and the focus is ease. Short coats for women do the job of something longer, but without the drag. They're hip-skimming, easy to layer, and cut for movement.

Designed in Dublin in tweed, wax and waterproof fabrics, each piece keeps the outline clean and the fit comfortable from the first wear. The silhouettes stay composed. The lengths feel deliberate. And the payoff is simple: you can move through your day without fighting your outerwear.

Across the edit, you’ll find ladies’ short jackets in Yorkshire-woven wool tweed, waxed cotton from Halley Stevensons in Scotland, and waterproof fabrics built for sustained rain. Some styles are made for a quick dash out. Others are ready for a full day outdoors. What they share is enough structure to hold shape and enough ease to reach for daily.

Colours range from deep olive, navy, and natural tweed tones to lighter jade, rose, and teal. Details stay tidy and purposeful, but never shouty. These are short coats for women that look pulled together without looking like they tried too hard.

Fabric and Construction Built for Regular Wear

Fabric is the point of difference here, not decoration. Yorkshire tweeds from Moons bring warmth with breathability, so they don’t feel heavy or stuffy when you dip indoors between outings. Waxed cotton initially feels structured but softens and settles over time, hugging your shape perfectly and taking on character with wear. Waterproof styles lean on tested finishes and taped seams, built for the kind of rain that hangs around. Our short coats for women use fabrics chosen for how they wear after weeks and months, not how they look fresh out of the box.

Shorter Lengths That Work Harder

Hip length jackets and coats are subtly brilliant. They make getting in and out of the car easier. They keep your stride free. They layer cleanly over knitwear, and it still works under a heavier coat when the temperature drops. Most importantly, they don’t swallow the rest of your outfit. A shorter hemline keeps the look lighter, sharper, and more modern. This is especially true when paired with high-waisted denim, tailored trousers, or a midi dress.

Styling Across Seasons and Settings

Tweed jackets bring polish to everyday dressing: denim, boots, a fine knit, done. Wax styles suit weekend errands and rural walks, especially when the weather can’t decide what it’s doing. Waterproof designs are always welcome on commutes, school runs, and any day you know you’ll get caught out. These ladies’ short jackets are designed to slide into your wardrobe as it already is. You won’t need to reinvent anything. You’ll just wear them more than you expected.

What types of short jackets are in this collection?

You’ll find tailored tweed jackets with clean, structured lines, belted styles that define the waist, classic wax jackets with brass fastenings, and waterproof designs finished with secure zips and storm flaps to keep wind and rain out. Some lean polished and sharp; others are built for practical, everyday wear.

Are ladies short jackets warm enough for colder months?

Yes, especially in tweed and waxed cotton. The shorter length also makes layering easier, so you can add knitwear or a mid-layer without feeling bulky. On genuinely cold days, that layering strategy can make a bigger difference than an extra few inches of hem.

How should a short jacket fit?

Start with the shoulders: they should sit neatly without pinching. Then check the hem: it should land around the hip and stay there when you move, rather than riding up. You also want enough room for a light layer underneath, with fastenings that close cleanly without pulling. If you’re between sizes, use the size guide on the product page and base the call on how you’ll wear it most often.

Can I wear these jackets year-round?

Some, yes. Lighter waterproof or waxed short coats for women are ideal for spring and autumn, when the weather shifts hour by hour. Tweed comes into its own in winter, particularly with layers, and it stays comfortable when you’re moving between the outdoors and heated spaces.

What’s the difference between waxed and waterproof jackets?

Waxed cotton is water-resistant, not fully waterproof. It’s designed to handle drizzle, damp air, and light rain, and it develops character the more you wear it. A waterproof jacket is built for heavier, sustained rain, using waterproof membranes, sealed seams, and finishes that keep water out when you’re properly exposed.

How do I care for tweed and waxed jackets?

Always follow the care label first. In general, tweed does best with gentle spot cleaning and careful storage, so the shape holds. Waxed jackets shouldn’t be machine washed. To clean a waxed jacket, wipe it down with cold water and let it air dry. If the fabric starts to look dry or loses its water resistance, it may require re-waxing.
