Women's Herringbone Coats & Jackets

Herringbone is one of those weaves that doesn’t date. The angled, interlocking pattern has dressed tailored outerwear for generations, and it still reads as sharp, clean, and deliberate. Our herringbone coats for women are designed in Dublin and woven from 100% wool by two of the most respected names in these islands: Abraham Moon & Sons in Yorkshire and the heritage Molloy & Sons of Donegal.

The collection includes structured mid-length coats, A-line swing silhouettes, tailored jackets with princess seams, and contemporary designs that bring a modern edge to a traditional cloth. Colourways run from deep green and charcoal to moss, denim blue, and slate; tones that work with denim, knitwear, and boots without needing much thought. Whether you’re after herringbone jackets for women that are cut close to the body or longer coats with room for layers, the right shape is here.

Every piece is lined, finished with moleskin trims, and built to hold its shape through regular wear. These are women’s herringbone coats made to be worn in town, at the weekend, and on days that call for something with a bit of structure. The tweed does the talking.

Yorkshire and Donegal tweed, woven for wear

The herringbone tweed used in this collection comes from two sources. Abraham Moon & Sons have been weaving wool in Yorkshire since 1837 and are known for their rigorous standards. Donegal tweed has small flecks of contrasting yarns spun through the cloth that give it a distinctive, speckled finish rooted in Ireland’s Atlantic craft tradition. Both are 100% wool, soften and settle with wear while bringing a weight and warmth to our herringbone coats for women that synthetic fabrics can’t match.

Silhouettes that suit different days

Not every herringbone coat needs to do the same job. The structured, princess-seamed styles bring a clean, tailored outline. Sharp with trousers and boots for work or an evening out. Swing coats and A-line cuts offer more room, a lighter feel on the body, and a silhouette that moves well over dresses and knitwear. Shorter herringbone jackets for women sit neatly at the hip and make layering easier on milder days when a full-length coat feels like too much. The range gives you options rather than one fixed shape.

Details that earn their place

Moleskin trims line the collars and pockets, adding a softer feel against the skin and a finishing touch you notice when you put the coat on. Internal pockets keep essentials close. Back vents allow easier movement, and button detailing on cuffs and closures is clean and purposeful rather than decorative. These are design choices made for how the coat wears day after day, not how it photographs on a hanger.

What is herringbone tweed?

Herringbone is a V-shaped weaving pattern where the direction of the diagonal reverses at regular intervals, creating an interlocking zigzag. In tweed, this produces a fabric with visible texture and subtle depth that looks more refined than a plain weave.

Are herringbone coats warm enough for winter?

Yes. Wool tweed is a natural insulator, and all styles in this collection are fully lined for added warmth. For colder days, the coats layer comfortably over knitwear without feeling bulky or tight through the arms.

How should a herringbone coat fit?

Shoulders should sit neatly without pulling. The coat should close comfortably with room for a knit underneath. Check the size guide on each product page for measurements in centimetres and inches, and size based on how you’ll wear it most often.

Can herringbone jackets be dressed up or down?

Easily. A tailored herringbone jacket works with trousers and boots for something polished, or over jeans and a knit for a more relaxed look. The pattern carries enough visual weight to anchor either end of the spectrum.

How do I care for a herringbone tweed coat?

Allow it to air between wears and brush gently to remove surface dust. Spot-clean where needed with a damp cloth. For a deeper clean, professional dry cleaning is recommended to preserve the wool’s structure, colour, and finish.
